Clear words, built for people who have to act on them

Abenezer Mergia

I am Abenezer Mergia. I spent six years writing inside federal agencies, where a single paragraph might travel from a scientist to a senior executive to a member of the public without ever getting easier to read. My job was to make sure it did.

That work was done as a contractor supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the DHS Science and Technology Directorate, and the Defense Health Agency. Every sentence was reviewed by someone with the authority to change it, and the reader on the other end still had to understand it the first time. The agencies are named to show where the experience comes from, not as an endorsement.

I do the same work now for organizations with a mission and a small team, through Mergia Communications. Alongside it I write children’s books and Bible curriculum, lead children’s ministry at CJC Church in Northern Virginia, and host The Abe-Unit Show.

Different rooms, same discipline. Take something true and important, and hand it over in a form the listener can carry.

I hold a BA in Journalism and Media Communication from Colorado State University, with a minor in Business Administration, and I studied International Business at the University of Economics in Prague. You can also find me on LinkedIn.

Writing, service, and the show

The rest of the work shows the same habits: writing for readers who have to act on it, serving people in person, and asking better questions.
